The Spare Room – Old Hollywood Style

Spare Room MenuStep into the Spare Room at the Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood, California and you’ve stepped back in time to the Prohibition Era. It’s not just the decor but the people there who make you feel like you’ve walked onto the set of Broadway Empire. Men wearing suspenders and perfectly angled fedoras, ladies with bright red lips, clothed in low-waisted, flapper inspired dresses. Nevermind that you’re a few feet up from Hollywood Blvd., bustling with tourists, club-goers, and all those folks who define what locals call “Hollyweird.” Between the music, the two-lane bowling, and the fabulous cocktails, you’ll know you’re in a special place.

Recently I had the chance to attend a little event there that included an amazing cocktail menu created by mixologist Naomi Schimek using the premier spirit Caliche Rum. Between my friend Lauren and I we tried every drink- smooth cocktails served in the same dainty stemware our grandmother’s would have used. It was hard to choose a favorite but if I’d had a few more Jazz by the Glass cocktails and I’d be up on the bar crooning like Ruth Etting.
