Orange Sour is as easy to make as sweet and sour and just as versatile. Add a few ounces of it to your favorite gin, whiskey, vodka, or rum and you have a quick and delicious cocktail. And then when you come across any recipe that calls for sweet and sour or Margarita mix, try substituting this mix for something new. Step 1: Wash about 5 large oranges and 8 lemons.
Step 2: Slice each one in half, then squeeze them into a measuring pitcher. I usually collect about 1 cup of orange juice and a cup of lemon juice, but it really doesn't matter if you have more or less than that as long as you keep it somewhat proportional (more on that in Step 4).
Step 3: Pour your mixture through a filter or fine mesh strainer to filter out seeds and pulp.
Step 4: Now that you have 2 cups of orange and lemon juice, here's where you doctor it up to your exact taste preferences. We like to add in about 1 cup of sugar because the oranges are so sweet, but when it's lemon and lime juice for Margarita mix, we use almost the same amount of sugar as juice. We will add 1 cup + a ¼ cup of water because we love our sours to be on the, well…sour side. The greats news about mixes is that you can taste as you go to get it just how you like it.
