Mocktails for Dryuary: January 1st

This might come as a surprise but we have decided to participate in the growing trend of abstaining from alcoholic beverages for the month of January. Yes. We're nuts. But even cocktail bloggers need to take a break once in a while. The last four months of 2017 were so crazy busy with our new bartending business that we are embracing this month of sobriety with open arms. It will be a month to reflect on our successes from the previous year in order to grow, improve and excel. Plus, our December news feed was clogged with articles about how good it is to take a month off from imbibing. This article, written in 2015 by John Ore for Business Insider is one of my favorites. Ore mentions how quickly certain juice and club soda combos can get old when there's no vodka in the mix, and we've heard from many other dryuary vets that the no-drink novelty wears off about halfway through the month. We're going to try to get over that hump and to the finish line with a little creativity. In place of yummy cocktails we will be posting a daily mocktail to help us forget how much we adore a full-bodied cab at the end of the day, a neat pour of reposado with a squeeze of lime, a couple ounces of rye over ice...

We'll aim to introduce as much variety of possible but there will always be some sort of carbonated addition to keep things festive. Let us know what you think of the drinks on twitter: @GirlWalksIn2Bar ♥

Pomegranate Almond Spritz 5 mint leaves 1.5 ounces POM pomegranate juice ¼ ounce orgeat (almond) syrup Squeeze of lemon juice 4 ounces Perrier lime

Directions Muddle the mint leaves in the pomegranate juice until they begin to fall apart. Strain the mixture into a martini shaker and add the orgeat syrup. Fill the shaker halfway with ice and shake well. Strain into a bucket glass over ice and add the Perrier. Stir to mix and serve.
