Mocktails for Dryuary: January 2nd

1 day down, 30 to go!!! (Yes -those are exclamation points of sarcasm) They say it's easier to wake up in the morning when you haven't gone to bed with a glass of wine in your belly, but since it's still Christmas break around here, I'm not adhering to my usual 5AM wakeup time. It's more like 6:30/7:00AM, which any mom will tell you is a major sleep in and a vacation in itself. So...it would have been easy to get up anyway. I did have a wicked vivid dream, the kind where you wake up at 3AM and are so happy to be alive, but that could have been because of the most recent James Bond movie we watched and not the absence of Cabernet.

Today we're sharing a drink that really belongs in a summer collection of mocktails but like we said yesterday, we're going to try to change things up every day to keep the variety going. Maybe those of you who are on the east coast in sub-zero temperatures could use a little taste of the tropics anyway.

Although we had to open a small can of pineapple juice and mango juice for a single serving, this juice will not go bad for several days when refrigerated and should definitely be saved and reused if you're only have one serving or can't find a neighbor to share the recipe with. Just don't forget to shake that pineapple juice well or you'll be stuck with a watered-down, less flavorful drink.

Pineapple Mango Spritz 2 ounces Kern's mango nectar 2 ounces Dole's pineapple juice (small can) 1/2 ounce fresh lemon juice 4 ounces La Croix lime club soda Lemon wheel garnish

Directions Combine the mango nectar, pineapple juice, and lemon juice in a martini shaker and shake well to mix. Strain into a glass filled with ice and top with the club soda. Garnish with a lemon wheel and serve.
