Mocktails for Dryuary: January 6th

How's it going out there? Are we there yet? Last night I enjoyed a superb no-sugar iced ice tea at a Mexican restaurant in San Diego while my friends slurped down some mighty fine Margaritas, and tonight I guzzled my first ever Beck's non-alcoholic beer, passing on the red wine. Yay Dryuary. Here's another easy mocktail to enjoy this month, made with ingredients that you probably have at home. Orgeat syrup can be found at most supermarkets, specialty liquor stores, or shops like Cost Plus World Market. It's a good mixer to have on hand, as it's used a lot in classic cocktails.

Try this with sparkling apple cider and omit the club soda. Enjoy!

Almond Apple Mocktail 3 ounces organic apple juice ¾ ounce lemon juice ¾ ounce orgeat (almond) syrup Dusting of ground cloves 3 ounces club soda

Directions Fill a martini shaker with ice. Add the apple juice, lemon juice, orgeat syrup, and cloves. Shake well, then strain into a glass filled with ice. Garnish with an apple and serve.
